| | I got my first facial ever today, followed by a cheap (actually ended up being free) wash and blow dry at the local beauty school today.
If I knew how much of a self-esteem boost I'd leave the place with, I'd have gone years ago. I was told that I have great skin, which I even have in writing on the list of stuff she tried to sell me. Then, when I got my hair washed and blow dried by a girl who I seriously believe had never washed or blow dried another human being's hair before (which is why I think it was free), she couldn't stop saying that my hair was soft as silk and very healthy. Which, incidentally, I got to hear several times, because she took about 45 minutes to blow dry my hair (that was with no styling, just a simple blow dry).
I honestly was emotionally preparing for that scene in Truth About Cats and Dogs where Uma Thurman takes Janeane Garofalo to the department store makeup counter, and after seeing herself in harsh lighting and a super-magnifying mirror and being told by the saleswoman that she has large pores, it cuts to her crying and clutching a huge bag of products. I figured I'd be told all the horrible things about my skin and how horrible I was taking care of it. Maybe they just all are taught to compliment something about the skin of the person, and since my girl couldn't come up with something good, so instead just stuck with the generic "great skin" thing...
Even though it took about three hours to get a facial and wash and blow dry my hair, it was still enjoyable! Oh, and it was pouring down raining when I left, so the 45-minute blow dry was immediately wet again.
